Why is it not recommended to sleep with wet hair, before drying it? A study published about two years ago at Columbia University found that sleeping with wet hair causes many symptoms, including headaches, scalp infections, the growth of fungi, and infections on the pillow, as well as split ends.

Headaches

During sleep, the body temperature rises, causing it to heat up. If our hair is wet or wrapped in a towel, it can result in severe headaches. It is advisable to dry the hair thoroughly with a towel or a hairdryer and wait a while before going to sleep. Some articles in English even mention that sleeping with wet hair can lead to vision problems.

Pillow Infections

Sleeping with wet hair on a pillow quickly turns it into a breeding ground for infections and bacteria, dead skin cells, and natural oils from the skin. This ecological system exacerbates asthma issues, sinusitis, and other related illnesses. To prevent these, it is necessary to frequently change the pillows we sleep on.

Hair Breakage

Wet hair that is not properly dried tends to split and break more easily.

Scalp Infections

Fungi, dandruff, dead skin cells, wounds, and infections can develop on the scalp more quickly when sleeping with wet hair frequently. Itching is a common symptom of scalp disturbances, but beyond the aesthetic aspect, the problem can be much more severe. In rare cases, a condition called ringworm, known as a contagious disease, has developed on such hair.

So what is the solution? It's best to postpone the shower until morning. This way, not only is freshness maintained, but also better precaution from all the mentioned symptoms. If that's not possible, plan your showers so there is time before sleeping, or make sure to dry your hair beforehand.
