A comprehensive study published in the latest issue of the "American Journal of Clinical Nutrition" indicates that consuming high amounts of French fries frequently might increase the risk of premature death.

The research was conducted by nutrition and heart disease experts from several countries, including the UK and Italy. The potato consumption of 4,400 people aged 45-79 was studied over eight years. Remarkably, by the end of the study, 236 of the participants were no longer alive.

The astonished researchers examined how the study participants consumed potatoes. It was found that eating fried potatoes twice a week or more doubled the risk of early death. In contrast, boiled or steamed potatoes were not identified as risk factors. The researchers emphasize that "non-fried potatoes are relatively healthy due to their high content of vitamins and dietary fibers, which might balance the high glycemic value of the potato."

However, as noted, fried potatoes increased the risk of premature death. The health issue might stem from the preparation method: frying, not the potato itself. It's also important to remember that this is an initial, statistical study, and there is no reason to panic over consuming French fries in moderate quantities and reduced frequency.
