Spring is here and everyone is excited, except for those suffering from annoying allergic reactions like sneezing, itchy eyes, and more.
During this period, the air is filled with tree pollen composed of tiny grains, grasses, and various fertilizers. When these enter the body, the immune system categorizes them as 'invaders' and goes on alert, releasing antibodies that attack the allergenic invaders.
During this 'battle,' substances called histamines are released into the bloodstream, causing the 'external' symptoms seen in allergic individuals such as red and burning eyes, a runny nose, frequent sneezing, coughing, migraines, pressure in the ears and eyes, a feeling of suffocation, chronic fatigue, and sore throats.
The phenomenon of tree pollen usually occurs from the end of March to early June, while grass pollen occurs mostly from early May to mid-July. About 30% of the population suffers from spring allergies, which can outbreak at any age.
How to treat it?
There are several ways to treat allergies, ranging from prescription medications to simple actions to maintain an environment free of tree pollen. Here are a few simple and no less effective ideas than any 'magic' medications sold this season for treating the problem:
Important note: If allergic symptoms persist for more than a week, consult a doctor.
1. Seal windows on dry days and on days with strong winds, trying to prevent the winds from bringing all their 'cargo' into your home. Part of this is the tree pollen that causes allergies.
2. When driving, prefer air from the air conditioning and keep windows closed.
3. Make sure to mow the lawn often and remove any problematic weeds from the garden.
4. Went outside for errands? Change your clothes at home. Fabrics also collect tree pollen, which can help spread allergies.
5. Wash your hands with soap after being outside.
6. Another reason not to keep pets at home, besides the law not allowing it: Dogs, cats, and other furry pets attract pollen, which spreads around your home. Therefore, make sure not to let these animals into your home, especially not into your bedrooms.
