The health benefits of sweet potatoes have been mentioned here more than once. Alongside their sweet taste and soft texture, sweet potatoes are rich in beta-carotene, dietary fibers, vitamins, and minerals that contribute to the proper functioning of various body systems.

However, if that wasn't enough, researchers in Japan recently decided to investigate what can be done with sweet potato water after cooking – it's known that essential nutrients are released from vegetables during cooking and steaming. The scientists wanted to know if sweet potato water could provide us with additional benefits instead of these wonderful substances being wasted.

During the experiment, researchers fed two groups of mice. The first group received a high-fat diet along with sweet potato water, while the second group 'enjoyed' only the high-fat diet.

At the end of the experiment, researchers discovered a surprising finding: not only did the group that consumed sweet potato water lose weight, but they also succeeded in lowering blood cholesterol levels. The researchers explained this fact as follows: "The cooking process of sweet potatoes is long, during which compounds are formed that disrupt hunger hormones, leading to changes in fat metabolism."
