Amazing: We All Know It, But Few Know the Healing Properties of This Nut

While pharmacy shelves offer numerous chemical treatments for cavities, pneumonia, and tuberculosis (all caused by Gram-positive bacteria), science combined with nature provides a different solution—not only more available and tasty but also much healthier and without side effects.

While pharmacy shelves offer numerous chemical treatments for cavities, pneumonia, and tuberculosis (diseases caused by Gram-positive bacteria), science combined with nature provides a different solution—not only more available and tasty but also much healthier and without side effects.

Nice to meet you: the cashew nut.

Originating from Brazil, India, Africa, and Southeast Asia, the cashew nut excels in treating a range of health issues from toothaches and cavities to the prevention of cancerous tumors. For centuries, the cashew nut has been used in the folk medicine of Indigenous peoples in Africa and India, and research conducted on the nut in Japan in the early 90s revealed fascinating findings.

The fruit has numerous excellent properties, but here we'll enumerate just a few:

  1. All parts of the nut, meaning the fruit and the oil extracted from its shell, contain anacardic acid, clinically proven to aid in solving heart problems, preventing the spread of cancer cells, and actively fighting Gram-positive bacteria, which cause the diseases mentioned above.
  2. The nut also contains phenolic lipids, known to effectively eliminate various bacteria, some of which have developed resistance to antibiotics.
  3. Research on the cashew nut in Japan during the 90s yielded fascinating findings when scientists Masaki Imigima and Isao Kubo declared cashews particularly effective in eliminating cavities and other infections, and allowed various industries to use and market it as a natural remedy for these problems. A report published a few years later in various journals, based on the same research, suggested turning cashew components into toothpaste and mouthwash.
  4. The active components of cashews tested on tuberculosis bacteria, eradicated them within a record time of just 30 minutes, even though they were diluted in water and became less concentrated.
  5. A report published by a therapist named Charles Weber described five different cases of dental abscesses, all of which, without exception, healed thanks to the use of cashew nuts. "All they did was integrate cashews into their daily diet," he said. "But it's important to remember if the tooth infection is caused by other means, and not by Gram-positive bacteria, cashews won't help in these cases."
  6. Due to their many and powerful antioxidants, the active ingredients of cashews also help in the context of the notorious cancer, and many studies have proven that integrating cashews into a person's diet prevented them from contracting this disease.

Important Warning

In the shell of raw cashew nuts (those picked directly from the tree), there is a substance called urushiol, a type of toxic substance prohibited from consumption that may cause skin rash.

The cashew brought to health food stores, and more, undergoes a steaming process that 'kills' the urushiol from the nut, making it appropriate and permitted for consumption. However, direct contact with the tree may cause more severe allergic reactions. While cashew trees are not found in our country, knowing about this never hurts.
