Was a Natural Cure for Cancer Found in 1951? Discover the Budwig Diet
In 1951, a German scientist named Johanna Budwig claimed she had the ultimate solution for cancer prevention. Her proposal was rejected outright by American doctors, but to this day, there is a special diet named after her, which is based on cottage cheese and flaxseed oil, along with additional guidelines.

Was a Natural Cure for Cancer Found in 1951?
In 1951, a German scientist named Dr. Johanna Budwig announced that the ultimate combination of two products 'everyone has at home' was the best remedy for cancer.
Dr. Budwig held two doctorates - one in medicine and the other in chemistry and pharmaceuticals. As an avid enthusiast of physics, psychology, biochemistry, medical research, and natural medicine, she excelled in her field and authored numerous articles on the subject. For years, she also researched the drugs offered to cancer patients, was a member of a cancer research institute, and was nominated seven times for the Nobel Prize.
In 1952, Budwig was appointed as a senior expert at the government's center for processed drugs and oils. In one of her studies, she managed to demonstrate a direct link between the consumption of commercially processed fats and the destruction of cells and tissues in our body, which may ultimately lead to a terminal chronic illness. We are all aware that fats clog our veins and arteries and are the main cause of heart attacks, but Dr. Budwig's innovation was that the destructive impact reaches the cellular level itself.
She discovered that when unsaturated fats are chemically attacked, their unsaturated qualities are destroyed along with them, and "the battery dies because there are no more electrons to charge it," as she described. What happens then is that when quality fats are destroyed, they become 'inactive' and are unable to flow into the capillaries and renew the blood cycle.
"American Doctors Are Not Willing to Listen"
Dr. Budwig's research on cancer further revealed that cancer patients' red blood cells lack a fatty layer present in all healthy individuals. Based on this discovery, she concluded that the best natural treatment for cancer patients is a diet based on a healthy lifestyle, a combination of physical activity, and... two main ingredients that should be added to the daily menu.
However, it seems not everyone was eager to accept her proposal. "American doctors are not willing to listen," she wrote in one of her articles. "I have the answer to cancer, but they only come here to observe my method. They are impressed, excited, acknowledge that the method seems interesting and good, but that is where it stops."
Although this might have discouraged her, Dr. Budwig did not give up. She began accepting patients at her own clinic and reported at least a 90% success rate, which she shared in six of her authored books. Her method included several drastic aspects of dietary change, with a primary focus on consuming cottage cheese mixed with flaxseed oil in a specific ratio.
Among other things, Dr. Budwig emphasized that in her diet, patients are prohibited from eating animal products (except for cottage cheese) or consuming any dietary supplements.
Here are some of the guidelines she suggested in her method:
- Daily exposure to sunlight (in moderation).
- Consumption of mineral water only.
- No consumption of meat or animal fat, and processed foods.
- Do not eat leftover food; always prefer fresh food.
- Only consume organic vegetables and fruits.
- Incorporate freshly ground flaxseeds and consume them within 15 minutes after grinding.
- Do not consume dietary supplements.
- Daily consumption of cottage cheese mixed with flaxseed oil, at a ratio of 1:2 (one tablespoon of cottage cheese for every two tablespoons of flaxseed oil).
Recommended recipe by Dr. Axe – based on Dr. Budwig's method. Watch:
- A cup of goat's milk yogurt or a cup of cottage cheese.
- 4 heaped tablespoons of ground flaxseeds or chia seeds.
- A teaspoon of flaxseed oil.
- A teaspoon of turmeric.
- A teaspoon of black pepper (to make turmeric absorption more effective).
