New study reveals: Using baking foil is a health risk. The research, conducted at a university in Egypt, found that the aluminum foil commonly used in baking releases toxic substances that penetrate the food and pose a health threat.
The risk increases as the amount of toxic substances exceeds the level set by the World Health Organization, which is 40 mg per kilogram of body weight. Aluminum may cause reduced bone density, brain damage, and even Alzheimer's.
While aluminum is present not only in foil but also used for coating pots and pans, during baking, the levels of aluminum increase, making its penetration into food higher and more dangerous.
Researchers also mention that for aluminum-coated utensils, particularly with foods like tomatoes, lemons, spices, and alcohol, it's advisable to avoid scraping the utensils, which causes excess aluminum release in future cooking.
So what can be done? Researchers recommend an alternative such as glass or porcelain dishes to avoid excessive release of toxic and dangerous substances found in aluminum.
It should also be noted that aluminum foil can still be used for wrapping cold foods, as it poses less of an issue, but if another viable alternative is available, it's recommended to use it.
