Suffering from Nasal Congestion? Try These Five 'Grandma's Methods' for Relief
Prolonged facial massage, turmeric drink, warm compresses, and caffeine avoidance—everything you need to know about relieving nasal congestion and more.

The transition periods between winter and summer catch most of us 'unprepared'. The weather changes constantly, and those of us who are sensitive catch colds and flu, one of the less pleasant symptoms of which is nasal congestion.
So how do we relieve it? Before we provide some natural tips to ease this unpleasant sensation, it is important to note that the accumulated mucus in the nasal area serves an important role: it captures bacteria found in the respiratory tract, which then exit with it when we blow our nose.
Tips for Relieving Nasal Congestion:
1. Massage the following areas for 15 seconds each: the bridge of the nose and the eyes, between the nostrils and cheeks, and the earlobes. This type of massage is excellent for releasing sinuses and reducing nasal congestion.
2. Warm compresses - take a small towel, wet it with hot water, and place it on the face. The hot water helps open the airways and releases the sinuses.
3. Water, dear friends, water - When suffering from nasal congestion, our body needs a lot of fluids to turn the accumulated mucus into a liquid. Once the mucus becomes liquid, it will be easier to expel.
4. Remember the humidifier you used for your baby so they could sleep better at night? The same device can also help you. A humidifier adds moisture to the air, thus diluting our mucus.
5. Although it is hard for you to give up coffee and other caffeine-rich drinks, it is advisable, at least until the nasal congestion passes. Research shows a direct connection between increased caffeine consumption and chronic flu. Therefore, at least during illness, reduce or completely avoid caffeine consumption.

Five Grandma's Methods for Treating Nasal Congestion:
1. Natural Turmeric Drink
Containing many good antioxidants and antibodies, turmeric is excellent for treating colds, including nasal congestion. Mix a cup of milk with a teaspoon of turmeric and pour into a pot. Bring to a boil with a teaspoon of honey and a quarter teaspoon of black pepper and let the drink cool for five minutes. Drink shortly before bedtime for immediate improvement.
2. The Wonders of Ginger
Take fresh ginger root and peel it. Cut into small cubes, sprinkle with a pinch of salt, and chew the salty pieces throughout the day. This combination of ginger and salt is excellent for releasing mucus and also helps ease a sore throat. If you find ginger's taste unpleasant, you can rinse your mouth well afterwards and 'reward' yourself with a teaspoon of honey.
3. Steam Inhalation
Treating nasal congestion with steam is one of the most effective treatments in medicine, helping not only to release mucus but also to ease the irritation that comes with colds. Take a deep bowl, pour in boiling water and five to ten drops of eucalyptus oil. Lean your head towards the water, cover it with a towel to keep the steam 'inside', and inhale while closing your eyes. Continue this treatment for ten minutes while also blowing your nose.
4. Ginger Tea and Some Helpful Surprises
In a small pot with water, bring to a boil a teaspoon of crushed garlic, a teaspoon of chopped ginger, and a teaspoon of cinnamon. After boiling, strain the water and add one to two teaspoons of honey, two teaspoons of lemon juice, and a tea bag of your favorite flavor. Drink this amazing infusion several times a day.
5. Salt Water Rinses
Mix a teaspoon of salt in two cups of lukewarm water. Using a dropper, drop a bit of the solution into each nostril, tilting your head to allow the solution to absorb well. After a few seconds, blow your nose and repeat the process each time your nose is clogged.
