Sage has medical, nutritional, culinary, and ornamental uses. Medically, various types of sage are used as remedies for different symptoms and ailments. Nutritionally, sage is a component found in the seeds of various species, serving as a dietary supplement and a source of essential fatty acids. Culinary-wise, using sage leaves is common for tea infusions and seasoning dishes. Sage is also an ornamental garden plant with pleasant blossoms and fragrance.<\/p>

Many of us grew up knowing sage accompanies us during various periodic illnesses: when there's inflammation - sage, when there's a stomach ache - sage... It's time to understand it more deeply. Sage is a typical Israeli plant accompanying us on hikes in the coastal, Golan, and Galilee mountains. We enjoy rubbing it in our hands and smelling its bitter and strong aroma. What makes sage so powerful and significant for us? The plant has several properties:<\/p>

First, it possesses a drying property, thus used for excessive sweating, halting breast milk production, and treating menopausal excessive sweating. This is also why a nursing woman should avoid sage consumption to prevent stopping milk production.<\/p>

The plant has antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties. However, nowadays, it's primarily consumed for local, acute conditions of sore throats and various digestive disorders. An interesting study indicated that medicinal sage could improve memory in Alzheimer's patients due to its strong antioxidants. Another experiment in Britain showed that using sage leaf extract helps soothe the nervous system<\/a>, improves mood, and reduces stress.<\/p>

Medicinal Sage - Aids Various Digestive Problems<\/strong><\/u><\/h3>

For various digestive issues, colds, and coughs, steep 3-5 sage leaves in boiling water for about a quarter of an hour. Then strain, mix with a bit of natural sweetener like honey, and drink. The infusion can also be used for mouth rinses, bleeding gums, or general inflammation, or existing mouth ulcers.<\/p>

The plant is not recommended for epilepsy patients or those taking medications affecting the central nervous system. It is also not recommended for pregnant women as it may cause uterine contractions. Additionally, it is not advised for women who wish to continue nursing.<\/p>
