Good news for Type 2 diabetes patients: A new medication is soon coming to Israel, expected to ease insulin consumption. The drug, called Trucity, is designed to improve glucose balance in adults and will be provided in a ready-to-use, pre-filled injector, making it easier to administer.
This medication will be offered to patients as a standalone treatment or in combination with other drugs, in doses of 1.5mg or 0.75mg, administered only once a week.
Additionally, it eases insulin consumption as previously suggested and may even alleviate needle anxiety: it comes with a ready-to-use pre-filled injector fitted with a needle that inserts at the push of a button and retracts automatically—so the patient never sees it.

The company behind this drug is Lilly, defined as the "cutting edge" of medical and technological innovation in diabetes management. It's an international company that provides support and solutions for diabetes patients and was the first to introduce commercial insulin back in 1923.
For now, it seems Israeli doctors are very satisfied with the decision to import the drug, hoping it will improve the quality of life and health for the many patients with Type 2 diabetes. "This is a family of drugs that are similar to a natural hormone in our body, causing a decrease in blood sugar levels and simultaneously aiding weight loss," explained Prof. Julio Weinstein, the head of the diabetes treatment unit at Wolfson Hospital.
"About 90% of diabetes patients are overweight, making this an excellent drug. In many cases, it may serve as an excellent alternative to insulin. Similar drugs exist in the country, but the innovation here is that this drug is apparently more efficient and safer, with fewer side effects, and the injection process is simpler than with other drugs".
