Have We Found the Ultimate Solution for Early Detection of Throat Cancer?

Researchers from Cambridge University in London believe that swallowing a pill attached to a tiny sponge can enable early detection of throat cancer.

Sensational Research: This intriguing development has been worked on by scientists from Cambridge University in London. They claim that swallowing a small pill attached to a thread can collect data from up to half a million cells in the throat in just five minutes. It's a unique capsule wrapped in a tiny sponge called Cytosponge.

So how does the patent work? It's quite simple. The thread attached to the end of the capsule is held by the doctor, while the patient swallows the capsule. Within five minutes, the capsule dissolves in the stomach, and with the help of the thread, the doctor pulls the 'sponge' up towards the esophagus. As the tiny sponge passes through the esophagus, it 'scrapes' a culture of cells. This culture is later taken to a lab for early detection of esophageal cancer, where it is examined in depth. Researchers hope that thanks to this remarkable patent, it will be possible to detect cancer up to 15 years before it erupts and treat it accordingly.
