Stress is indeed psychological but causes a variety of physiological symptoms. Today, it is scientifically proven that stress leads to weight gain, heart problems, memory issues, hair loss, and allergies.
One of the most common phenomena among those suffering from stress is difficulty falling asleep. You feel exhausted, get into bed, desperate to fall asleep, but then the thoughts come, and sleep is elusive. Prolonged exposure to stress can destroy the sleep mechanism and cause permanent sleep disturbances.

Dr. Andrew Weil, a Harvard-educated American physician, offers a simple breathing technique called "Relaxing Breathing." It is very easy to implement, takes less than a minute, and helps with quick sleep. It works as a natural sedative for the nervous system. It can be performed in any position; however, the recommended position, at least initially, is sitting with a straight back.
Before starting, place the tip of the tongue on the roof of the mouth for the entire exercise. The breathing should be done through the mouth, around the tongue, with lips slightly pursed.
The actions themselves are simple: inhale while silently counting to 4, hold your breath and continue counting to 7, and then exhale while counting to 8. Make sure to exhale through the mouth and inhale through the nose, with the exhalation taking twice as long as the inhalation. Repeat the cycle 4 times.
The technique helps with quick sleep onset and is recommended for various stress situations throughout the day.
