Do You Say "Modeh Ani" Every Morning? You Might Be a Happier Person
Judaism has long known the secret, but now Americans do too: Studies show that expressing gratitude, of any kind, can make you a happier person.

If you say "Modeh Ani" every morning, it's likely to make you happier. Experts in mental health and studies emphasize the importance of a positive start to the morning, such as expressing any form of gratitude, which can impact your overall happiness.
Dr. Daniel Amen, a psychiatrist and brain imaging researcher from California, recommends starting the day with a positive morning affirmation. He suggests that saying something like "Today is going to be a great day" out loud can change how the brain handles daily challenges. He explains that people with a tendency toward negative thinking sometimes experience lower activity in brain regions related to decision-making and awareness. "When you begin your morning with a positive message and express it vocally, you are essentially programming your subconscious to seek positive experiences throughout the day," he says.
Studies demonstrate that simple habits such as smiling, meditation, physical exercise, or even a cup of coffee can contribute to a good morning feeling. 85% of Americans surveyed said they consciously try to think positively to improve their day. However, one of the most prominent elements that experts repeatedly recommend is gratitude.
Experiments have proven that people who recognize the good in their lives, whether by writing it down or saying it, experience higher levels of happiness. Beyond the immediate impact on mood, gratitude can also contribute to improved physical health. "No elaborate rituals are needed," researchers note, "just thinking or saying thanks for one small thing every morning can make you feel better."
