A sobering statistic post-Holocaust: The global Jewish population still hasn't reached the pre-World War II figure of 16.6 million. Meanwhile, the world's population has almost tripled.

The Central Bureau of Statistics released data ahead of Holocaust Remembrance Day showing that the number of Jews worldwide is lower than it was in 1939, before the Holocaust. The data reveals that currently, there are 14,511,000 Jews across the globe, in contrast to the 16,600,000 before World War II. In 1939, there were about 449,000 Jews in Israel, while in the year of the state's founding, with 11,500,000 Jews worldwide, there were only 650,000 in Israel. From that year to today, the number of Jews has practically increased tenfold. This figure is similar to the global Jewish population in 1922, indicating that 96 years ago, there were only 14 million Jews worldwide. Moreover, most Jews today live in Israel and the United States.

Further analysis shows that today, there are only 6,446,000 Jews living in Israel, compared to 5,700,000 Jews in the United States, 456,000 in Canada, 390,000 in Canada, 290,000 in Canada, 181,000 in Argentina, 176,000 in Russia, 117,000 in Germany, and about 13,000 in Australia. Additionally, between 1948 and 2016, the number of Jews worldwide decreased from 10.8 million to approximately 8 million. Additionally, the Jewish population in Israel and worldwide has only grown by 26 percent. In contrast, the global population has tripled - from 2.5 billion people to around 7.5 billion in total.

As a reminder, yesterday we reported that according to the figures, Israel's population has surpassed 8.8 million residents, totaling 8,809,200 individuals. The population in Israel grows at an annual rate of more than two percent. Of the Jewish residents, 74.6 percent of the total population in the country are Jews. In comparison, the Arab population numbers 1,841,700 people, making up 20.9 percent of the entire population. As for the other residents? There are an additional 401,300 people in Israel, accounting for 4.5 percent of the total population, classified in records as "others." These are mainly immigrants, primarily from the former Soviet Union, who immigrated under the "Law of Return." Additionally, 169,000 people in Israel are legal foreign workers. Currently, around 50,000 individuals have arrived from Africa and are considered illegal residents or those whose status has not been settled.
