The people of Israel find it difficult to part with the great Rabbi Gershon Edelstein, a leading figure of the Ponevezh Yeshiva and a key leader in the world of Torah, who passed away yesterday (Tuesday) at the age of 100, clear-minded and fully functioning until his last day.

A new Biblical code indicates where the Rabbi's passing is hinted at in the Torah.

The Biblical code is a method for finding various expressions in the Torah by reading them at intervals of letters. This way, the word "Gershon" can be found by skipping a fixed number of letters. For example, in a certain verse, the letter G appears, five letters later R appears, and five more letters later S appears, and so on.

This fact was already known to the ancients, and in the Zohar, we already find the use of skips to reveal secrets hidden in the Tanakh. By skipping letters at a fixed number in the verses of the Tanakh, messages (words or whole sentences) hidden within the verses can be revealed, often matching precisely with the verses they appear in.

The code hinting at Rabbi Edelstein's passing is brought in Parashat Naso, the portion during which the Rabbi fell ill and was taken to the hospital. Let us recall that in most of the world, Parashat Naso is the portion read during the current week, due to the second day of the diaspora holiday which causes a difference in the portions between Israel and the Diaspora.

Delve into the picture, where the main details about Rabbi Gershon are displayed, with a fixed skip of 250 letters:

Name: Gershon.

Parents names: Yehuda and Miriam.

Family name: Edelstein (composed of two adjoining words, as it is originally in Yiddish)

Position: Head of Yeshiva.

Residence: Bnei Brak.

Passing: Sivan 5783
