#VALUE!
An incredible lesson in personal empowerment can be learned from how the Japanese culture treats broken pottery.
When a vessel breaks, they often repair the shattered pieces by fusing them together with gold. By doing so, the flaws of the vessel are transformed into a breathtaking, ancient work of art. Each “crack” becomes a unique, beautiful feature that adds depth and intrigue to the story the vessel tells about its history.
The message from this practice is simple yet profound: the cracks in our lives are what shape us into who we are, and this is more valuable than anything else in the world.
We are not perfect and many of us feel degrees of brokenness, but we have the ability to highlight those imperfections, sorrows, and shortcomings with gold- to give the "vessel" of our lives a precious and meaningful appearance.
What is that gold we begin with? Gratitude.
Gratitude and appreciation to G-d for every little thing we have (or don't have), is the way to reconcile with the inner and outer imperfections that have been etched into the fragile vessel of our lives.
