Rabbi Shimon Spitzer shares a wonderful story published in 'Habinu': A Jewish resident of Canada has recently been staying in the United States with his family. One of his children required urgent surgery, but since the family is not among the country's citizens and does not have health insurance, the cost of the surgery was the full price: $40,000.

The surgery was urgent and could not be postponed because the child was in agony. The surgery was scheduled for 10:00, but during the preparations for the surgery, a patient in very serious condition was rushed to the hospital. The need to operate on him took precedence over the urgency of the child's surgery, so the surgery time was postponed to 18:00 in the evening.

How would we react? With anger, frustration, helplessness? Few people accept delays and postponements calmly, without complaining and saying: "Look, I'm doomed to pay an unnecessary $40,000, and now I'm 'stuck' for 8 hours in a hospital with a suffering child"...

The waiting hours for the surgery. 12:00 in the afternoon. The father's phone rang, and he was asked on the other end: "Did you arrive in the United States by car or plane?" "By plane," the surprised father replied, and the speaker on the other line told him: "In that case, it is possible that the agent who booked your flight ticket also arranged health insurance for your stay in the U.S., even though nothing was mentioned."

A call to the agent, who replied that indeed, he had purchased health insurance for the father. "However," the agent added, "to receive the surgery expenses from the insurance company, you must notify them in advance of the surgery – and not after."

"We haven't had the surgery yet," replied the father, amazed by the precise providence for him. He contacted the insurance company, and shortly thereafter, the child entered the operating room and emerged healthy and intact.

This principle applies even when we don't see the progression of events tangibly: Everything has its time, and when there is a delay, it is only for the good. The more we live with faith and trust and arm ourselves with patience to wait for the right time, it will become clearer why the delay occurred, and it will be retrospectively evident that everything is Hashem's grace.
