What Does One Gain by Doing Something for the Nation in This World?

Would it really not be better to be just any bent-over Jew in some corner who can sit and learn whenever he wants, go out and play if he feels like it, and decide together with his family what to eat for dinner? A weekly message from Rabbi Eliyahu Rabi.

Hello and blessings, my teachers and rabbis!

Today is the birthday and passing day of Moshe Rabbeinu.

Moshe Rabbeinu, master of all prophets, the crowned leader of the Jewish people, who successfully led the Jewish people for forty years in the wilderness, and before that, brought them out of Egypt and finally brought them close to entering the Land of Israel.

What are your real thoughts about Moshe Rabbeinu? Would we really want to trade places with him, or not? Years of disputes and struggles with this stiff-necked people—namely, us. Years of emotional ups and downs, and even temporary conflicts with Hashem when He disapproved of Moshe’s actions.

Would it really not be better to be just any bent-over Jew in some corner who can sit and learn whenever he wants, go out and play if he feels like it, and decide together with his family what to eat for dinner?

Moshe Rabbeinu was supposed to discover, was meant to, for part of the years, separate from his family. Would we really want to switch places with this great leader?

So first of all, it’s clear to us all that the closeness to Hashem that Moshe Rabbeinu had, no one had, and most likely no one will have in the near future, maybe in the days of the Mashiach new things will emerge that we haven't thought of, but until then, we all know that master of the prophets is only Moshe Rabbeinu.

Moshe Rabbeinu, beyond the closeness to Hashem that he had, also lived a life full of fulfillment because day by day and hour by hour he did something for the Jewish people, he lived the real life, not just spending time, not just eating, not just lying or just sleeping.

He did the best and most meaningful things possible for the world.

We don’t have this power because none of us has reached such high spiritual dimensions, but in our small dimensions, in the small possibilities that we have in life, we also have the possibility to be leaders, we also have the possibility to make good decisions for the sake of others, and we also have the opportunity to take responsibility for others and lead them only to good.

There suffering is not found, there true satisfaction is found, there the great power is found, and there the true energies needed so greatly for each one of us.

Each one in his way, each one in his state, each one in his place and time will find his small Moshe Rabbeinu and will merit to lead and thus gain more strength and more meaning for our true lives.

Bless you all!
