#VALUE!
Sivan asks: "How can I know for sure that God is with me and watching over me with personal providence? How can I know that the Creator cares about me? I want to feel His presence in my life."
Dear Sivan,
The very fact that you're asking this question and longing to feel close to God, is already a sign that He is with you and deeply interested in you. Otherwise, He wouldn't have placed this yearning in your heart. That desire to connect with your Creator is itself a gift from Him.
God watches over each and every one of us with the most detailed, personal providence. He is the Creator of the universe — limitless, present in all places and all times, and nothing is hidden from Him. He created you and sustains your soul every single moment. When we say the daily blessing Asher Yatzar, we thank God for forming us with wisdom and for constantly keeping our soul within us. Every breath we take is a gift of divine will.
That longing in your heart to grow spiritually is already proof of His attention and love. He is the one who planted that spiritual yearning within you.
The feeling to connect to God is one of the most powerful forces a person can have — strong enough to make someone give up everything for it. As the Torah says, “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your might” — even if it means giving your life (Berachot 61). Human beings are the only creatures with the capacity to recognize and speak to their Creator in prayer.

You are not just another being in creation. You have a Divine soul, described by the Sages as a “portion of God from above.” This gives you the potential to reach heights greater than angels. You were created in God's image. That’s why the Torah says: “You are children of the Lord your God” (Deuteronomy 14:1). Because your soul is divine, you are the closest being to God in all of creation. That’s also why you feel a deep inner push for meaning, connection, and purpose.
Through that spiritual drive, God gave us the ability to recognize Him, to search for His guidance, and to understand that we have a soul, that there is life after death, and that this life has meaning and a divine purpose. The Torah was given to help us not only cope with suffering and hardship, but also to infuse our lives with meaning.
It teaches us that this world is a test, a preparation for the eternal world to come.
You can strengthen your relationship with God by:
Listening to Torah lectures (for example, on the Hidabroot website or YouTube channel)
Reading books of ethical and spiritual growth
And most importantly, prayer.
Prayer is our most personal connection to God. Find a quiet space and speak to God in your own words, respectfully, honestly, and openly. Tell Him what’s on your mind, share your struggles and doubts, ask for guidance and strength. With time, you’ll begin to see His presence in your life, in the help that arrives unexpectedly, the advice that suddenly appears from a surprising source, the doors that open at just the right moment, and the emotions that remind you how deeply loved you truly are.
He’s already walking with you. Now it’s time to start noticing.
