How Did the Israelites Multiply to Three Million in Egypt?

Exploring the rapid growth of the Israelites in Egypt, fossil formation during the flood, insights into Mishnah and Gemara, and other intriguing questions.

אא
#VALUE!

Several Questions: :

- When we arrived in Egypt, we were 70 people, and after a short period, we became 2 million. Is this mathematically and logically feasible?

-Where is the archaeological evidence for this?

- Noah's Ark. How were fossils formed, and secondly, how did water cover all the continents?

- Why is the Gemara called Gemara? If possible, could you provide a concise explanation on the Bible, the Mishnah, the Aggadot, what exactly they are... I am just starting to learn Gemara ....

- Did Darwin prove the theory of evolution?

Thank you, much appreciated.

Hello my friend, and thank you for your questions. I am happy to assist as much as I can.

Rapid growth is indeed possible, and we see it happening today in some third-world countries. Here is a calculation:
12 men and 12 women would have around 72 children (assuming each woman successfully bears at least six healthy children, including three daughters). So we have 36 sons and 36 daughters who marry each other and collectively have 216 children.
108
new families will have 648 children.
324
new families will have 1933 children.
972
new families will have 5832 children.
 2916
new families will have 17,496 children.
 8748
new families will now have 52,488 children.
 26,244
new families will now have 157,464 children.
78,732
new families will now have 472,392 children.
236,196
new families will now have 1,417,176 children.
708,588
new families will now have 4,251,528 children.
2,125,764
new families will now have 12,754,584 children.
The total population so far: 14,880,348 (without counting the elderly).
This number was reached in 198 years, assuming men marry at age 18. 18 further years would yield the impressive number of 38,263,752 (thirty-eight million people!). Even if we reduce for the sick, dead, and infertile, we cannot grossly reduce by more than two million people..

Papyruses documenting the population numbers in Egypt have never been found. Researchers only generally estimate the population size. There is no doubt that Egypt's great kingdom was built by a large enslaved people. There are archaeological evidences for this. Professor David Rohl writes in his book "The Bible - From Myth to Historical Truth": "Perhaps the most surprising thing about these slaves is that in Egypt, a government official could afford to own over forty slaves as personal property... We are faced with the wonder of how and why such a large number of Asian (Canaanite) slaves came to Egypt and became enslaved there...". The Brooklyn Papyrus also mentions some of the slaves' names: "Issachar", "Asher", "Shifra", "Menachem". These are entirely Hebrew names, showing that they were indeed the people of Israel under Egyptian oppression..

Fossils form in natural disasters involving rapid burial. Therefore, it is logical that most fossils were formed during the flood.

There was indeed a global flood, as we find marine fossils even in deserts and tops of the highest mountains in the world..

Regarding the quantity of water, we now know of tsunamis which allow enormous amounts of water to cover continents for long periods. The Torah also claims that "the fountains of the great deep broke open" (matching the description of underwater earthquakes), and later states how the waters gradually returned to the sea, and not all at once, which is also a known phenomenon of devastating tsunamis. Thus, the flood likely occurred this way.

Well done in your journey of strengthening your faith. With Hashem's help, you will grow to become a wise student. Regarding your questions:

1. The Bible is the Tanakh documenting the words of the prophets, beginning with the five books of the Torah given to Moses by G-d. In total, there are 24 books of the Tanakh documenting all Jewish history until the destruction of the Second Temple..

2. The "Six Orders of the Mishnah" are the Mishnayot, i.e., the Oral Torah transmitted by rabbis from generation to generation, explaining the commandments in the five books of Moses. The Mishnayot were written by Rabbi Judah the Prince for fear they would be forgotten. Until then, they were only passed orally. The rabbis during the time of the Mishnah were called "Tannaim," who defined the Oral Torah for students. The Mishnah was written around 2000 years ago. .

3. For the next five hundred years following the writing of the Mishnah, students known as "Amoraim" studied the Mishnah's words, clarified it, investigated it, and documented their studies in the "Gemara" containing 40 tractates. "Gemara" is an Aramaic word meaning "Talmud" or "study" (the Aramaic word "L'migmar" means to learn). The Gemara was documented by Ravina and Rav Ashi. It was sealed around 1500 years ago and is also called the "Babylonian Talmud" (because it was written by the Amoraim who lived in Babylonia, as opposed to the "Jerusalem Talmud" written by the sages of Jerusalem).

4. The Midrashim were orally transmitted from generation to generation until they were written in the Midrash books (Midrash Rabbah), and many are also mentioned in the Gemara. The Midrashim are primarily designed to teach deep moral ideas, and many of them are not meant to be taken literally. Most Midrashim were documented from the time of the Mishnah, and some were written down during the days of the Amoraim.
