The Florida police managed to recover four diamond earrings stolen from a luxury jewelry store. After substantial searching, it was discovered that the suspect swallowed them during his arrest. The total value of the jewelry is approximately $770,000 (around £600,000).
The incident happened in February when the suspect visited a Tiffany & Co. branch in Central Florida, presenting himself as someone looking to purchase earrings and a diamond ring for a famous basketball player from Orlando. He was shown into a VIP room to examine the jewelry closely, but shortly after, he jumped up from his seat, grabbed the jewelry, and fled the scene.
The police managed to locate the suspect's vehicle using mall security cameras, and shortly after, he was arrested in Washington County, about 550 kilometers from the scene, after being spotted driving without taillights.
According to reports, during his arrest, the suspect was heard saying, "I should have thrown them out the window." Later, when transferred to the detention center, he asked the guards, "Will I be charged for what I have in my stomach as well?"
After swallowing the earrings, he was placed under medical supervision, and for about two weeks, investigators waited until the jewelry could be recovered from his body. A police examination confirmed that the serial numbers of the earrings matched those stolen from the store.
After the diamonds were recovered, the suspect was transferred to a jail in Orange County. He is charged with aggravated theft and robbery.
