Another Embarrassing Incident for Pro-Palestinian Protesters: A man who climbed Big Ben in London in an attempt to provoke and incite against Israel eventually descended after 16 hours on the famous clock tower. Despite his extreme calls and attempts to gain attention, he was forced to end his protest earlier than planned in the only possible way – by returning to the ground.
The event began yesterday (Shabbat) in the morning, when British security forces were alerted following a man climbing Big Ben while shouting slogans against Israel. A buffer zone was established at the site, and vehicular movement in the area was halted. Rescue forces, including the police, fire brigade, and London ambulance services, worked throughout the day to restore order.
The police, who tried to persuade the protester to come down, told him that "eventually he would have to come down," but the protester continued to film himself and chant empty slogans such as "Free Palestine" and "Stop arming Israel." Initially, he declared he would remain for many days, but in the end, he had to concede. What he hadn’t accounted for was that reality is stronger than any populist statement, and eventually, even he realized he had no choice but to relent.
Scotland Yard spokesperson stated that the incident was handled "with the seriousness it deserves," but emphasized that enforcement at the location was intended to ensure public safety – a clear message to anyone considering a similar protest in the future.
This event joins a series of incidents where extreme protesters have tried to incite and undermine citizens' sense of security but have encountered a firm stance from the authorities. Only last month, a pro-Palestinian protest in New York quickly devolved into violence and disorder as protesters invaded the Jewish neighborhood in Borough Park. It seems time and again, the inciters try – and ultimately fail.
