England: A 27-year-old woman named Catherine Morel recently became a paramedic after defeating cancer three times.
"After experiencing this terrible thing firsthand, I know how important it is to be in the right place at the right time," she says today.
Her story begins back at age 16 when she was first diagnosed with cancer and underwent chemotherapy every day for six months. She managed to overcome it, but then two more diagnoses came almost one after another, keeping her constantly 'on edge.'
Now, completely clear of the malignant lymphoma (blood cancer) metastases, Catherine explains that she decided to become a paramedic because of the wonderful treatment she received when she needed it the most.
"I spent 11 years of my life in hospitals. When you get used to it, you can't do without it. It's like something is missing. When I met the paramedics who treated me in the ambulance, I thought how cool it would be to work in that field. For them, it was just another routine workday, but the care they gave me changed me significantly. They made me feel special, and I felt like I wanted to be a part of that. But a healthier part. I feel like this is what saves me."
