The internet is buzzing after a mother of a toddler published a video in which she 'seemingly' gives him a gift in the middle of grocery shopping at the supermarket.

The video shows the toddler sitting in a shopping cart while his mother, named Hannah, presents him with a gift he is supposed to be happy about. Instead, it appears that the toddler shields his face upon receiving the gift - a gesture that led many viewers around the world to claim the mother is abusing her son.

According to them, the toddler responded with fear to her gift and did not seem happy at all.

"This reaction is typical for children who are used to getting hit, not for children who are used to getting gifts," remarked one comment, which received dozens of additional comments in agreement. "You can clearly see that his first instinct is to protect himself, it's sad," it continued.

Among all the heated comments, another response came in the form of a video from a different mother and her two-year-old son. This mother wrote, "My two-year-old son does not flinch at a similar gesture. You know why? Because he knows we will never hit him."

Hannah, for her part, denied the allegations of abuse.
