Sydney residents were shocked to discover that the seawater in one of the city's harbors turned blood red.

The event occurred at Careening Cove, near Milsons Point Park in the Kirribilli suburb. This upscale area became an investigation scene as astonished residents gathered to figure out what caused the unusual phenomenon. Following the surprising discovery, both local and regional authorities sprang into action.

The North Sydney Council dispatched inspectors to examine the waters, and the New South Wales Environment Protection Authority (EPA) joined the investigation.

Despite their efforts, the origin of the dramatic color remains a mystery for now.

The only theory proposed so far suggests the possibility of plumber's dye, also known as tracing dye or fluorescein, which plumbers use to detect water flow in pipes or identify leaks. A council representative stated that they are aware of the red water flowing from the park into the harbor; however, despite the investigation, the source has yet to be found. The NSW Environment Protection Authority stated it is investigating the "potential source" of the phenomenon.

It's important to note that, according to the authorities, fluorescein is non-toxic but can create dramatic colors in water.

The investigation continues in an effort to solve the mystery and determine the origin of the mysterious red color.
