Yuval is No Longer Confused: Quits Performing on Shabbat

When it comes to approaching religion, for many people, especially those who have achieved fame, it can be difficult to speak openly about their internal processes and their relationship with their Creator. However, children’s star Yuval Shem Tov, known to us all by his stage name 'Yuval Hamebulbal', has no such issue with transparency.

In an interview with 'Pnai Plus' magazine, Shem Tov expressed that "I've always had a connection to religion, and in the past year I've been strengthening that bond. I'm doing it gradually, because I believe that if a person flies too high, they'll eventually give up.

I've taken on eating only kosher, washing my hands every morning, and also wearing tefillin. I don't manage every day, but I try. Just thinking about it and having the intention makes a difference. I also talk to Hashem. I practice what's called 'hitbodedut', and I truly feel like something is happening lately. Good things are starting to happen to me. I feel more connected to my true self".

The children's star also adds that he simultaneously explores religion from a scientific perspective. "I discovered that everyone is talking about the same things - even the laws of the universe and quantum theory. The idea that thought can change matter is scientifically proven, and it's also written in the Gemara".

Does his spiritual strengthening include Torah lessons? Apparently so. "I attend Rabbi Yuval Hakohen Asherov's classes every Tuesday, and I leave there every time saying to myself, wow," Shem Tov says.

When asked how all these steps align with performing on Shabbat, Shem Tov responds: "I've decided that from September, with Hashem's help, I will stop working on Shabbat. Although you can earn a lot from performances on Shabbat, I think those who want to see me will come on Thursday. There's no blessing in Shabbat money".
