The required amount to obligate a final blessing (from "Daily Halacha" based on the rulings of Maran Rabbi Ovadia Yosef zt"l):
For any food that a person eats, a "first blessing" must be recited, such as the "Shehakol" or "Ha'etz" blessing. Even if only a small amount of that food is consumed, a blessing is required, as long as it is eaten for the purpose of eating. (However, if one only tastes the food to adjust seasoning, for example, no blessing is needed). Therefore, someone chewing flavored gum, even if swallowing only a little, must still bless for the enjoyment of the gum's flavor. Similarly, if one drinks something, they must bless even if it's just a sip.
This requirement pertains only to the initial blessing. A final blessing is only recited when the food consumption is significant, which is defined as the amount of a "kezayit," meaning twenty-seven grams, and for drinks, it is a "revi'it," which is eighty-one grams.
Furthermore, the eating or drinking must be completed within a time frame that constitutes as continuous consumption. If a person eats the quantity of a "kezayit" bread throughout an entire day, one crumb at a time, they certainly cannot recite the "Birkat Hamazon" blessing afterward. Instead, the consumption of a "kezayit" amount should occur within the timeframe known as "Achilat Pras." There is a debate among posekim regarding this period, some saying it is five minutes, others seven and a half minutes (and there are additional opinions). It is advisable to always consume a "kezayit" amount (especially during Shabbat meals) within four and a half minutes to satisfy all opinions.
In terms of a final blessing for drinks, a "revi'it" should be consumed in one go. If there are pauses between sips, no final blessing is recited. Thus, sipping soup with a spoon does not warrant a final blessing as it is not consumed in one go; similarly, drinking hot coffee or tea does not require a final blessing as it cannot be consumed in one go.
