Consumption amount to be obligated in a concluding blessing (from "Halacha Yomit" based on the rulings of Maran Rabbi Ovadia Yosef ZTzL):
For anything a person eats, they must recite an "initial blessing," such as the blessing "Shehakol" or "Ha'etz." Even if consuming only a small amount of food, they must bless if intending to eat. (However, if only tasting the food to adjust seasoning or similar, no blessing is required.) Thus, one who chews flavored gum, even if swallowing just a little of it, must bless for enjoying the taste. Likewise, anyone intending to drink something must bless even if drinking just a single drop.
However, this applies only to the initial blessing; for a concluding blessing, one must consume a "significant amount." This significant consumption is the amount of a "kezayit," which is twenty-seven grams, and for liquids, the amount is a "Revi'it," which is eighty-one grams.
Additionally, the consumption or drinking should occur within a timeframe that links these actions. For if one eats the amount of a "kezayit" of bread throughout an entire day, crumb by crumb, they surely cannot bless the Grace after Meals. Instead, the "kezayit" must be consumed within the time of "eating a pras," and there is a disagreement among the authorities about this duration, with some saying it is five minutes and others saying it is approximately seven and a half minutes (and there are other opinions). Therefore, it is wise to always consume a "kezayit" (especially during Shabbat meals) within four and a half minutes to satisfy all opinions.
Regarding the concluding blessing for a drink, one must drink a Revi'it of the beverage (eighty-one grams) all at once. If there is a pause between sips, no concluding blessing is recited. Therefore, someone who eats soup with a spoon does not recite a concluding blessing on the soup, as they did not consume a Revi'it all at once. Similarly, someone drinking hot coffee or tea does not bless afterward, as they cannot drink it all at once.
