The amount required to obligate a final blessing (from "Daily Halacha" based on the rulings of Maran Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, of blessed memory):
For everything a person eats, a "first blessing" should be recited, such as the blessing "Shehakol" or "Ha'etz". Even if one eats only a small amount of that food, a blessing is necessary as long as it is consumed for eating purposes. (However, if one only tastes the food to adjust seasoning, etc., a blessing for that taste is not required). Therefore, someone who chews flavored gum must bless for the taste enjoyed, even if nothing is swallowed. Similarly, a blessing is required for any drink, even if only one drop is consumed.
But this applies specifically to the first blessing. A final blessing is recited only when a significant amount of the food is consumed. A "significant amount" is defined as a "kezayit" — approximately twenty-seven grams. For a drink, the measure is a "revi'it" — eighty-one grams.
Additionally, food or drink must be consumed in a timeframe that allows for such quantities to combine. For instance, if someone eats an entire "kezayit" of bread throughout a day, piece by piece, they cannot bless Birkat HaMazon afterward. The entire "kezayit" must be consumed within the duration of "Achilat Pras" — with opinions varying between five to seven and a half minutes. Consequently, it's advisable to consume a "kezayit" (especially during Shabbat meals) within four and a half minutes to satisfy all opinions.
Regarding a final blessing on a drink, one must consume a "revi'it" (eighty-one grams) in one go. If pauses occur between sips, no final blessing is recited. Thus, someone drinking soup with a spoon does not bless after because a "revi'it" was not consumed at once, and similarly someone sipping hot coffee or tea should not recite a final blessing, since it cannot be consumed in a single motion.
