The amount required for a concluding blessing (from "Halacha Yomit" by the rulings of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, of blessed memory):

For everything a person eats, they must recite an "initial blessing", such as "Shehakol" or "Ha'etz". Even if they eat only a little of that food, they are still required to bless it, as long as they intend to eat it. (However, if a person just tastes the food to adjust the seasoning, they do not bless this tasting at all). Therefore, someone who chews flavored gum, even though they swallow only a very small amount, still needs to bless it because they enjoy the taste of the gum. Similarly, anyone who drinks anything, even a single drop, must bless it.

However, this only applies to the initial blessing. A concluding blessing is recited only when one has eaten a "significant amount", defined as the volume of an olive ("Kazayit"), which is approximately twenty-seven grams. For drinks, the amount is a "Revi'it", approximately eighty-one grams.

Additionally, the consumption must occur in a short enough time frame for the amounts to be considered contiguous. For instance, if someone eats an olive-sized portion of bread throughout the day, piece by piece, they cannot recite the concluding grace. The amount must be eaten within the time period known as "Achilat Pras", with differing opinions about the duration, some saying five minutes, others saying about seven and a half minutes. To be cautious, it is advisable to consume the "Kazayit" within four and a half minutes to fulfill all opinions, especially during Shabbat meals.

For a concluding blessing on drinks, one must drink a Revi'it in one go. If pauses occur between sips, no concluding blessing is recited. Thus, someone sipping soup with a spoon does not say a concluding blessing on that soup, as they do not consume a Revi'it all at once. Similarly, someone drinking hot coffee or tea does not recite a concluding blessing because they cannot drink it all in one gulp.
