Amount needed to require a final blessing (from "Daily Halacha" based on the rulings of the late Rabbi Ovadia Yosef zt"l):
On everything a person eats, one must say a "first blessing," such as the blessing "Shehakol" or "Ha'etz." Even if one eats only a small amount, they are obligated to bless if they are eating it for consumption. (However, if one is only tasting it to adjust seasoning, no blessing is recited). Therefore, someone chewing flavored gum must bless for deriving pleasure from the taste, even if they do not swallow much. Likewise, anyone drinking something must bless even if they drink just a drop.
However, this applies only to the first blessing. A final blessing is only recited if one ate a significant amount, which is a "k'zayit," approximately 27 grams, and for drinking, the measure is "revi'it," which is 81 grams.
Additionally, the eating or drinking must occur within a time span where it is considered one continuous act. If someone eats a "k'zayit" of bread throughout an entire day, piece by piece, they cannot say the grace after meals. The entire "k'zayit" must be consumed within the time span of "achilat pras," although there is a disagreement among authorities about this, with some saying it's 5 minutes and others 7.5 minutes (additional opinions exist). Therefore, it's recommended always to consume a "k'zayit" (especially at Shabbat meals) within 4.5 minutes to fulfill all opinions.
Concerning the final blessing on a drink, one must drink a "revi'it" (81 grams) at once; if interruptions occur between sips, no final blessing is recited. Therefore, one who drinks soup with a spoon does not say a final blessing, as no "revi'it" was drunk at once. Similarly, one drinking hot coffee or tea does not say a final blessing, as they cannot consume it all at once.
