Amount of food required to be obligated in the last blessing (from "Daily Halacha" by the rulings of Maran Rabbi Ovadia Yosef ztz"l):
For any food a person eats, they must say a "first blessing," such as the blessing of "Shehakol" or "Ha'etz." Even if they eat only a small amount of that food, they must bless it, as long as they intend to eat it. (However, if one tastes the food merely to adjust the seasoning, they do not bless this tasting at all). Therefore, someone who chews flavored gum, even if they swallow very little, must still bless for enjoying the flavor of the gum. Similarly, anyone drinking something must bless it, even if it's just one drop of that beverage.
This applies specifically to the first blessing, but the last blessing is only recited if one eats a significant amount, defined as "kezayit," which is twenty-seven grams, and for drinking, the measure is "revi'it," which is eighty-one grams.
Additionally, the eating or drinking must occur within a timeframe that allows the foods or drinks to combine. If someone eats the measure of "kezayit" over an entire day, piece by piece, they cannot bless afterward. The "kezayit" must be eaten within the time of "Achilat Pras," and there is a debate among poskim on this duration, ranging from five minutes to about seven and a half minutes (with additional opinions). Therefore, it is advised to always eat the "kezayit" (especially at Shabbat meals) within four and a half minutes to satisfy all opinions.
Regarding the last blessing for a drink, one must drink a revi'it of the beverage (which is eighty-one grams) at once. If there is a pause between sips, no last blessing is recited. Therefore, when drinking soup with a spoon, no last blessing is said since the measure of revi'it is not consumed at once. Likewise, for hot coffee or tea, a last blessing is not recited as one cannot drink it all at once.
