Amount required for eating to be obligated in the final blessing (from "Daily Halacha" based on rulings of Maran Rabbi Ovadia Yosef zt"l):
For anything a person eats, they must pronounce a "first blessing," like the blessing "Shehakol" or "Ha'etz." Even if one eats a small portion of that food, a blessing is required, as long as they intend to eat it. (However, if one only tastes the food to adjust seasoning, no blessing is made.) Therefore, someone who chews flavored gum, despite swallowing just a small amount, is required to bless it for the enjoyment of its taste. Similarly, when someone drinks anything, they must bless it, even if they only drink a single drop.
However, this applies specifically to the first blessing. A final blessing is only recited when one has consumed the food in a "significant quantity." For food, the significant quantity is "KeZayit," approximately twenty-seven grams, and for a drink, it is "Revi'it," which is eighty-one grams.
Moreover, the consumption must occur within a timeframe such that it is considered as one continuous eating or drinking session. For instance, if a person eats a KeZayit of bread across an entire day, piece by piece, they cannot bless with Birkat HaMazon afterward. Instead, the consumption of a KeZayit must happen within the time of an "Achilat Pras," with differing opinions on its duration, ranging from five minutes to about seven and a half minutes (and there are additional views on this matter). Therefore, it is advisable to consume a KeZayit (especially during Shabbat meals) within four and a half minutes to satisfy all opinions.
Regarding the final blessing for a drink, it is necessary to drink a revi'it (eighty-one grams) in one go. If one interrupts between sips, they do not bless afterward. Therefore, if one consumes soup with a spoon, no final blessing is made on the soup, as it was not consumed in the measure of a revi'it in one go. Similarly, hot coffee or tea does not receive a final blessing, as it cannot be drunk all at once.
