The required amount of consumption to necessitate a final blessing (from "Daily Halacha" based on the rulings of Maran Rabbi Ovadia Yosef zt"l):

For anything one eats, they must recite an "initial blessing," such as the blessing "shehakol" or "ha'etz." And even if they eat only a small amount of that food, they must still bless it, as long as it is eaten for the purpose of eating. (However, if they only taste the food to adjust seasoning or similar, no blessing is required for that tasting). Therefore, someone who chews flavored gum, even if they do not swallow much of it, must still bless for the enjoyment of the gum's flavor. Similarly, one who drinks something must bless it even if they intend to drink just a single drop of that beverage.

However, all this applies only to the initial blessing. The final blessing is recited only when enough of the food is consumed, deemed as "significant eating," which is the amount of an "olive size," approximately twenty-seven grams. In drinking, the measure is a "revi'it," which is eighty-one grams.

Additionally, the eating or drinking must occur within a timeframe that allows the consumption to be combined. For if a person eats an olive-sized piece of bread over the entire day, bit by bit, they cannot recite the Grace After Meals afterward. The amount of an olive size must be eaten within the time frame of "achilat pras," and there is a disagreement among scholars regarding this timeframe, with some suggesting it is around five minutes, while others say it is about seven and a half minutes (and there are other opinions as well). Therefore, it is advisable to always consume an olive-sized amount (especially during Shabbat meals) within four and a half minutes to fulfill all opinions.

For a final blessing on a beverage, the drinker must consume a revi'it (eighty-one grams) all at once; if they pause between sips, no final blessing is recited. Therefore, one who eats soup with a spoon does not bless that soup afterward, as they did not consume a revi'it all at once. Likewise, one who drinks coffee or tea when it is hot does not recite a final blessing on it, as they cannot drink it all at once.
