#VALUE!
A father of seven daughters was celebrating the marriage of his youngest. On the final evening of Sheva Brachot (the traditional week of festive meals following a Jewish wedding), he suddenly stood up and asked to say a few words. The entire hall went quiet. This was a man known for being reserved, not one to speak at family events. Until now, he had never addressed the crowd at any of his daughters' weddings.
As the room grew quiet, his voice rang out clearly: "My dear teachers and rabbis, I want to tell you something. I have married off seven daughters—and Hashem did not help me at all..."
A stunned silence fell over the room. The guests were confused. Was this a cry of pain? Had the challenges finally broken this simple Jew? It’s not easy to marry off seven daughters. Was he expressing disappointment or despair? His new mechutan (in-law) looked concerned. The groom turned pale. What could he possibly mean?
Then the father continued, his voice stronger now: "Hashem didn’t just help me—He did everything! I didn’t lift a finger. He brought the match, the joy, the blessings, the salvation—everything! I didn’t do anything!"
And with that, the message became clear. The crowd exhaled. Tears began to fill their eyes This wasn’t a man who had lost faith—it was a man who had found it in every step of his journey.
If we can hold onto these words at different moments in our lives—especially during the emotionally charged times of marrying off a child—we can feel a deep sense of calm. The worry that keeps so many parents up at night begins to fade. Why be afraid, when the Creator of the world is watching over our homes like an eagle hovering over its nest? Hashem cares for us and our children with endless love and perfect timing.
When we let go of the illusion that everything depends on us and remember that we are in Hashem’s hands, life becomes lighter—and full of blessing.
