Hashem Wants to Answer You
Let’s say it clearly: Hashem wants to respond to your prayers. To truly speak with Hashem, you must believe that He both wants to and can help you. In the absence of that belief, you’re not really speaking to Hashem. You’re speaking to a limited idea of Hashem that exists only in your mind.
Here are five essential principles for building honest, heartfelt communication with Hashem:
1. Hope for the Best
You must know that Hashem wants to help you. Whatever you ask of Him is infinitely smaller than what He’s already given you and what He is capable of giving. So be optimistic and expect the best. Hashem desires a relationship with you, and at the same time, He wants you to understand something crucial: when your prayers seem unanswered, Hashem is actually signaling that something in your life needs to change. That’s a gift. Without it, you might remain stuck in illusions and confusion about whether Hashem can really fix things.
Focus on this simple truth: Hashem wants only what is good for you. If you truly internalize this, He will move mountains to answer your prayers.
2. Pray Slowly and Intensely
Choose a verse that speaks to you, one with depth, meaning, and personal resonance. But don’t rush through it. Words spoken quickly can’t touch the heart. Give your heart the time it needs.
Say the verse slowly and with intensity. Let your heart catch up with your words and connect emotionally to the message. This is what releases the powerful, spiritual energy hidden within the depths of the words.
Of course, it's hard to pray this way from start to finish since it would take an extremely long time. But try it with one or two verses in each prayer, and you’ll experience a taste of Gan Eden.
3. No Prayer Is Ever Wasted
Not a single prayer goes unanswered. Our sages teach that even the prayers that seem to go unfulfilled are stored away by Hashem and will be used at the right moment. The late Rabbi Shimshon Pincus explained that every tear shed in prayer is preserved by Hashem until the time comes for it to be answered.
4. Hashem Cares Deeply About You
Words spoken by someone in distress carry more power than a beautifully composed prayer. Hashem loves honesty. He cares deeply about both your major struggles and your minor frustrations. Sincere words from the heart are cherished and powerful.
5. Speak to Hashem in Your Own Words, Every Day
It’s ironic. Though Jews are the ones who brought the concept of monotheism to the world, we often feel awkward speaking to Hashem in our own words while others do it with ease. Prayer should never feel uncomfortable.
In truth, Hashem loves small, personal requests. He hears every prayer, loves when we reach out to Him, and listens with attention, care, and patience.
Hashem is always waiting for your call. The line is open, and it’s free. Pick up the phone now.
