As humans, we have the ability to decide whether to turn right or left. But what about bees? Can they also choose their direction?

Professor Mandyam Srinivasan from the Queensland Brain Institute in Australia conducted a study that confirmed this: bees too have a preference for either the left or right.

As part of the research, Professor Srinivasan explored how honeybees avoid collisions during flight and found that bees exhibit a preference for one side over the other.

In the study, the team including Professor Srinivasan observed the choices of honeybees when faced with an obstacle offering two path options and during flight without obstacles: "The study revealed that bees distinctly chose between left and right when deciding between two different paths. Some bees consistently preferred the right, while others tended to choose the left," explained Professor Srinivasan.

Ze'ev Medan, CEO of the Honey Council, discussed the significance of the study findings with 'Israel Today': "With about a third of the bee population disappearing worldwide, substantial funding is being directed to bee research. This study's findings highlight the advanced abilities of bees beyond those known to the public. The honeybee is the most crucial pollinator in the world, responsible for 80 percent of agricultural crops, making it vital to continue investing in bee research."
