An ancient lead amulet with old Hebrew script was found among excavation remnants at the archaeological site on Mount Ebal in Samaria. The amulet features the Hebrew letter 'Aleph' in ancient script alongside a lotus-like symbol.

Researchers have yet to complete their study to determine its origin. The amulet was found where archaeologists discovered "Joshua's Altar," a structure attributed to Joshua Bin Nun after the Israelites entered the land, as described in the Bible.

Yossi Dagan, head of the Samaria Regional Council, says the new find underscores the deep connection between the Jewish people and Samaria: "The recent discoveries on Mount Ebal continuously prove the profound and inseparable link between the Jewish people and Samaria and the Land of Israel. The discovery of Joshua's Altar by the archaeologist Prof. Adam Zertal, of blessed memory, is one of the most significant findings in the history of archaeology in the Land of Israel.

"Unfortunately, the Palestinian Authority, with partners from Europe and the far-left, tries daily to erase the Jewish people's history in Samaria. Recently, there was further damage to the site of Joshua's Altar. The government must fully take responsibility for these historical and important sites in Samaria, protecting and developing them," Dagan said.

Researcher Tzvi Kanigsberg, who assisted Prof. Zertal, of blessed memory, in the excavations at Joshua's Altar, revealed that after the dig, they left many piles of excavated earth, aware they might contain valuable finds. These were relocated securely for further examination.

Among the artifacts discovered was the mysterious amulet, a tiny lead item measuring only 2X2 centimeters. It was sealed like a clam with numerous grooves. One groove resembles a bull's head, representing 'Aleph,' the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet. Another mark found on the amulet appears similar to a lotus flower, an important image in ancient Egypt.

Kanigsberg explained that a detailed examination of the plaster tablets found within the altar will follow. They will be examined with technological advances not available during the initial excavations, such as sophisticated infrared devices that may reveal writing. This action is mentioned in the biblical context regarding Joshua's Altar."
