The events known globally as September 11 occurred 18 years ago, precisely today on Elul 23, 5761.

Terrorists hijacked four planes headed to the United States. One flight, likely aimed at Washington, D.C., crashed in Pennsylvania. Another plane struck the Pentagon, destroying one of its sections. The other two planes crashed into the Twin Towers—the World Trade Center in Manhattan, New York—and demolished them.

These attacks marked the largest assault on the United States since Pearl Harbor. Approximately 3,000 people perished in the attacks, including passengers and crew members on the four planes.

Responsibility for the attacks was swiftly attributed to Al-Qaeda. However, the organization's leader, Osama bin Laden, only took responsibility three years later. Bin Laden was killed in 2011, nearly a decade after orchestrating the attacks.

The September 11 events had a profound impact: on the U.S. economy and on global attitudes toward terrorism.

Amidst the horrific events and significant loss of life, the following years saw the emergence of many stories featuring individuals who were miraculously saved, avoiding the World Trade Center area despite being scheduled to be there at that time.
