The INS Dakar was a submarine purchased from the United Kingdom in 1965 and served in the Israeli Navy. About three years later, in January 1968, the submarine sank, with the cause still unknown to this day. All 69 crew members on board perished.

Approximately a year after the sinking, one of the submarine's buoys was discovered on the shore of the Gaza Strip. Misleading conclusions from this finding led to searches for the submarine in the wrong areas.

31 years and 4 months after the sinking, on 13th of Sivan, 5759, following another search operation aided by the USA, the Dakar's remnants were discovered by the search ship Nauticos. The submarine's remains were found about 3 kilometers from its original destination. Remains of the victims were never found.
