#VALUE!
Samuel the Prophet, after whom an entire book in the Prophets is named, was the son of Elkanah and his wife Hannah from Ramathaim-Zophim. Samuel was born to his mother after many years of barrenness, and upon his birth, his mother pledged to dedicate him to serve Hashem at the Tabernacle. When Samuel was just 3 years old, his mother brought him to the Tabernacle in Shiloh, where he was raised and taught by Eli the Priest.
Samuel assumed the role of Eli after his passing and the passing of his sons. He was also the prophet who anointed King Saul, and subsequently, King David.
According to the Taanit tractate, the day of Samuel the Prophet's passing falls on the 29th of Iyar.
