The Dimensions of Jewish Mysticism: Beyond Science

To unify the domains of cosmic and quantum physics, scientists suggest a universe more complex than the 4D experience we're accustomed to. They propose a 10-dimensional reality.

At the forefront of physics lies an unresolved scientific enigma. In simple terms: the physics governing celestial bodies doesn't align with the physics of subatomic particles. In scientific terms: Einstein's Theory of Relativity conflicts with Quantum Mechanics. This is problematic because it suggests two separate branches of physics, which shouldn't exist. How is it that certain laws govern stars and immense masses over vast distances, yet different laws apply to minuscule particles?

For decades, physicists have sought to develop a "Theory of Everything" (TOE), a single theory encompassing all aspects of reality. In science, this endeavor is known as "String Theory."

Though not yet finalized, a consensus has formed that if there is to be one unified physics, impacting both the universe and minute particles, we must accept that the universe isn't just four-dimensional, as we perceive it (3D space plus time), but rather "multidimensional." How many dimensions? Ten.

Physics further suggests that six of these dimensions are "folded." In our daily experience, we only perceive four dimensions (3D space and time), but there are six more, folded and imperceptible. This arises from mathematical formulas.

In summary, the scientific frontier posits that all physics is based on a 10-dimensional reality, six of which are folded.

Amazingly, this concept appears in Jewish mysticism, the "Kabbalah," for centuries, according to the Zohar, a book dating back 1900 years. In Kabbalah, spiritual reality comprises ten dimensions, or "Sefirot," with six of them "folded."

The accompanying pdf document provides a diagram of the 10 Sefirot, received by anyone studying Kabbalah. Note the six Sefirot labeled "Zeir Anpin," collectively referred to as "Vav Ktzavot," meaning "six sides" (in Hebrew numerals, letters represent numbers; Aleph equals 1, Bet equals 2, etc.). These six are folded into one.

"And yet the Tiferet Sefirah

encompasses six Sefirot: Chesed, Gevurah, Tiferet, Netzach, Hod, Yesod.

This gives us a total of ten.

However, all these six details...

are merely a subdivision of one Sefirah"

(Ma'arechet HaSulam, on the Rose discourse in the Zohar)

"Six Sefirot... a subdivision of one Sefirah" - six Sefirot folded into one. Fascinating.

But wait - this is just the beginning. There's a wealth of information here unknown to science. Scientists don’t really understand the folded six dimensions, primarily a mathematical result, allowing for formulas matching all aspects of physical reality. But in Kabbalah, the 10 Sefirot, including the six folded ones, are well-known and comprehensible! They can be studied for years: their names, spiritual meanings, interconnections...

The attached pdf contains a summary detailing each of the 10 Sefirot, including the six folded (Chesed, Gevurah, Tiferet, Netzach, Hod, Yesod). This isn't the place to teach Kabbalah, which is only studied by those "full of Talmud and Jewish legal texts," meaning those well-versed in the Talmud and Jewish law. This summary is meant to offer a glimpse of the profound knowledge on the topic of the 10 Sefirot and the six extremities in Judaism.

Thus, Judaism precedes science. Truly.

Wait, there's more. It's intriguing to note: how did the Kabbalists (those engaged in the study of Kabbalah) learn about the 10 Sefirot and the six folded ones? They come from the very essence of the Torah's mysteries. The 10 Sefirot were derived from the Ten Commandments, the ten plagues of Egypt, and more. The six folded ones are partly learned from the six days of Creation. That is, stories of the Torah, clear to every child, also conceal information at the forefront of human science - and beyond the boundaries of physics. Amazing, isn't it?

Did you know that devout readers recite the 10 Sefirot each day before morning and afternoon prayers? Ask any Jewish person of Sephardic tradition about the "Patach Eliyahu" part of the Zohar. Here is some of it for you:

"You are the one who made Ten Adornments and call them Ten Sefirot to guide worlds with them."

(Zohar "Patach Eliyahu")

Translation:

"You are the one who made ten adornments called 10 Sefirot, to lead worlds through them."

"Robes you prepared for them, from which human souls soar, and many bodies you prepared for them, called body, compared to the robes that cover them, and are called by this arrangement: Chesed - right arm, Gevurah - left arm, Tiferet - the body. Netzach and Hod - two thighs. Yesod - the conclusion of the body."

(Zohar Patach Eliyahu)

Translation:

"Garments you prepared for them, from which human souls rise, and many bodies you prepared for them called body relative to the garments that cover them, and they are named in this order: Chesed - right arm, Gevurah - left arm, Tiferet - the body. Netzach and Hod - two legs. Yesod - the body's conclusion."
