When Science Points to God: How Modern Biology Strengthens Faith in Creation
How the latest discoveries in genetics, cellular biology, and natural design challenge Darwin’s evolution theory, and reaffirm the timeless truth of divine creation

“Lift up your eyes on high and see who created these” (Yeshayahu 40:26) “How great are Your works, O Lord; in wisdom You have made them all” (Tehillim 104:24)
To this day, the human mind has not proposed a scientifically sound theory for the origin of life. There is no logical alternative to faith in the creation of the world and of all living beings by a Higher Power — far beyond our comprehension — the Creator described in Bereishit.
Even in light of the astonishing progress of modern science, no scientific theory has succeeded in shaking our belief in the Creator and Ruler of the universe. On the contrary, every new discovery continues to strengthen the truth of the Torah.
Science and the Question of Natural Law
Scientists strive to explain the laws of nature and the remarkable harmony between them, but nature itself offers no explanation for the existence of those laws. The fact that the universe operates according to fixed principles is the very foundation of science — yet a serious scientist must ask: Who established these laws?
Can they be random? Impossible. A law is the very opposite of randomness.
Even Darwin’s theory of evolution — which claims that the wonders of creation arose by chance, is itself based on unchanging natural laws. If so, where did those laws come from?
The Limits of Science and the Collapse of Evolution
Much has been written about the limits of scientific speculation in fields like archaeology, the age of the Earth, and evolutionary biology — all based on assumptions drawn from present-day observations. For example, the theory that the Earth is three to four billion years old rests on data extrapolated from less than a century of measurements.
Darwin’s theory of evolution, proposed 150 years ago, claimed that all living species emerged through a long chain of random mutations and accidents. Modern discoveries in molecular biology and genetics however, have exposed deep flaws in this theory, and many scientists today reject it.
Dr. Yehoshua Shachor’s Biological Argument
Dr. Shachor notes that the very advances in cellular biology — once expected to prove evolution, have instead revealed the opposite.
He argues that the fossil record cannot prove transitions from one species to another, and that living organisms appeared on Earth almost immediately after liquid water formed — leaving no time for a “random” process of life’s emergence.
Turning to genetics, he points out that the cell nucleus, which directs genetic information, is an extremely sophisticated “factory” for producing proteins essential to life. Paradoxically, the simplest organisms — bacteria without a nucleus — survive and even threaten humans, despite our complexity. This, says Dr. Shachor, points to intelligent design rather than random development.
The Parasitic Wasp: A Lesson in Design
Dr. Shachor gives the example of parasitic wasps, whose reproductive system displays astonishing precision. Each species lays its eggs inside a specific host insect. The larva consumes the host’s body from within, but miraculously avoids killing it until it no longer needs it to survive.
This process requires multiple coordinated mechanisms:
Genetic “recognition” of the right host,
The ability to inject eggs safely,
Knowing precisely where in the host’s body to do so,
Chemical defenses against the host’s immune system,
Timing digestion so the host stays alive.
Such interdependent systems could never arise through gradual random mutations. Instead, they reveal the deliberate intelligence of a Creator.
Human Creativity and the Spiritual Dimension
Finally, Dr. Shachor highlights the human capacity for art, music, and emotion — abilities with no evolutionary advantage for survival. Even Darwin himself admitted that the musical sense is “one of the most mysterious faculties of man.”
The intricate coordination of vocal cords, nerves, muscles, and brain centers needed for music — and the emotional response it evokes, show that humanity possesses a spiritual essence beyond biology.
Likewise, the human face can express joy, sorrow, compassion, anger, and empathy, which are features unseen in animals. These emotional expressions serve no survival function but instead inspire love, kindness, and connection — echoes of the divine commandment: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Science Confirms, Not Contradicts, the Creator
Dr. Shachor concludes: “True, there is no perfect match between the Torah’s words and scientific findings, especially regarding time scales. But since scientific conclusions are always subject to change — while the Torah comes from eternal and absolute truth, we should not expect perfect alignment.”
Science continues to evolve, but its discoveries only deepen the wonder of creation. Every law of nature, every cell, and every act of consciousness proclaims the same message: “Lift up your eyes and see — who created these?”
