7 Timeless Lessons from Overcoming Evil: Revealing Hashem's Power

Throughout Jewish texts, it's highlighted that when Hashem takes vengeance on the wicked, His name is magnified and honored.

1. Rejoicing in Justice

"When the wicked perish, there is joy," says King Solomon in Proverbs 11:10, with many biblical verses echoing this sentiment.

2. The Divine Triumph

Rashi explains, "I will gain honor through Pharaoh and his forces." When Hashem avenges the wrongdoers, His name is glorified. Other proofs show Hashem's sanctity is elevated as He punishes the wicked, such as "I will judge him with pestilence and blood and torrents of rain and hailstones, fire, and sulfur will rain upon him and his forces, upon many peoples with him. Thus, I will magnify Myself and sanctify Myself, and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they will know that I am Hashem" (Ezekiel 38).

3. I Am Hashem and There Is None Else

Metzudot explains this concept: "And then I will be magnified and sanctified and known and famous in the eyes of many nations, and all will know that I am Hashem and there is none besides Me."

4. Beyond Nature: Miracles and Wonders

Malbim elaborates: "Torrential rain, hailstones, fire, and sulfur–these are heavenly and miraculous punishments, clearly showing Divine intervention. Thus, I will magnify Myself," declaring His greatness over all causes. "I am distinguished from nature and rise above it with signs and miracles, and by these means, I will be known among many nations, and they will know that I am Hashem."

5. Evidence from Psalms

Rashi provides further support from Psalms 76: "There He broke the flaming arrows, the shield and sword and battle armor," and in the same chapter: "God is known in Judah, in Israel His name is great."

6. Praise When the Wicked Vanish

Psalm 104 concludes: "Let sinners vanish from the earth and the wicked be no more. Bless the Lord, my soul. Praise the Lord." Although this verse seems disparate from the chapter, which primarily focuses on creation and nature’s harmony, King David emphasizes that the disappearance of sinful wickedness allows for such harmony. Therefore, he concludes, "Let sinners vanish from the earth and the wicked be no more. Bless the Lord, my soul. Praise the Lord."

7. David's Glorious Praise

The Babylonian Talmud in Berakhot mentions: "Rabbi Yehuda, son of Rabbi Shimon ben Pazi, said: David spoke 103 Chapters without saying Hallelujah until he saw the destruction of the wicked, as it says, 'Let sinners vanish from the earth and the wicked be no more. Bless the Lord, my soul. Praise the Lord.'"

We must deeply thank Hashem for His redeeming hand leading to the downfall of a notorious oppressor. Our gratitude to Hashem for this triumph over an enemy, whose constant threats challenged our security, should be immense. His Divine intervention has transformed our fears into relief. The fall of this terrorist leader, responsible for countless acts of terror, reaffirms that Hashem guards His people, and His mighty hand is our shield. Each blow to our enemies is another testament to the ever-present Divine supervision over Israel, compelling us to express our profound gratitude for both visible and hidden miracles.
