#VALUE!

Digestive discomfort from gas is something many people experience. It can be caused by fermentation of food that stays in the intestines too long, or from inflammation in the digestive system. Either way, it’s unpleasant and thankfully, there are gentle, natural ways to help.

One of the best first steps is prevention: try to avoid foods that are known to cause fermentation. At the same time, many herbs and plants, some known for centuries and mentioned in the writings of Rambam (Maimonides), can help bring comfort and balance.

Here are several traditional remedies that may ease gas and support digestion:

Parsley
Parsley is rich in essential vitamins and minerals and is known to help prevent gas buildup. You can drink parsley tea regularly, juice the fresh leaves and mix a tablespoon of juice with half a cup of water (two to three times a day), or simply enjoy it raw. Just be careful not to overdo it, as too much parsley can be overstimulating for some people.

Zaatar (Wild Oregano)
Zaatar supports digestion and may help relieve gas. To use it, place fresh zaatar leaves in a cup of boiling water and let it steep to make tea.

Chamomile
Chamomile is soothing and gentle on the digestive system. Soak the dried plant in water to create an infusion. The more plant you use relative to the water, the stronger the tea will be. Drinking chamomile tea can calm digestion and reduce gas.

Coriander
Coriander is another herb that helps with gas and digestion. It can be eaten raw or cooked, ground into food, or soaked in water and sipped as tea up to three times a day.

Louisa, Lemon Balm, Mint, Sage, or Peppermint Tea
These herbs are all known for their calming effects on the digestive tract. Drinking any of these teas especially on an empty stomach can help relieve gas and promote comfort.

Fennel
Fennel is packed with vitamins A, B, and C, as well as iron and minerals. You can drink fennel tea or eat it raw. Fennel seeds are especially recommended for gas relief. Crush the seeds and drink a mixture of one teaspoon with half a cup of water.

Almonds
Almonds are full of healthy oils, proteins, and iron. Their oil is especially helpful for easing gas. You can soak the almonds, then crush them and extract the oil to use.

Celery
Celery is high in iron and vitamin A and is often used to support digestion and reduce gas. It can be eaten raw or added to soups and salads.

Cinnamon
Cinnamon is known for warming and soothing the stomach. It’s especially effective when experiencing gas and bloating. Try it as a tea, or sprinkle a little in warm water or food.

Taking care of our health is part of taking care of the precious body Hashem gave us. These natural remedies are simple, nourishing, and have stood the test of time. But remember, while they can be helpful, they’re not a substitute for professional medical advice. If symptoms continue, be sure to consult with a qualified healthcare provider.

To your health and comfort—refuah shleimah (a complete healing)!
