Unlocking Nature's Secret: Oregano Oil, the Natural Antibiotic

You won't find it next to the canola oil at the supermarket, but it has earned a respected spot on the shelves of health stores. It comes in various forms, like capsules, pills, and even sprays, with one goal: helping you get through this winter in good health.

#VALUE!

I first learned about oregano oil a few years ago as a remedy for Helicobacter, an annoying bacterium in the digestive system that causes many people pain and discomfort. A naturopath I visited suggested a treatment that included dietary changes and one or two capsules of oregano oil daily. To my surprise and delight, it worked. Years of suffering (as anyone who struggles with Helicobacter knows) came to an end.

Later, I discovered oregano oil is also good for sore throats. A friend, to whom I mentioned my recurring throat infections, advised me to try the same capsules. I was skeptical, but had nothing to lose. I gave it a shot, and it worked wonders. Oregano oil proved to be a real lifesaver. I started researching and found that many companies produce this oil, and no, it's not a new trend in medicine. For thousands of years, people have used oregano oil for infections and inflammation—it's now scientifically proven.

The Miracle Oil

So, what are we talking about? Oregano oil, as you might guess, is extracted from the oregano plant, also known as Origanum vulgare. Oregano is a perennial shrub in the mint family that grows wild in mountainous regions of Mediterranean countries. It features purple blooms and can reach a height of 80 cm. Its taste is aromatic, bitter, and powerfully pungent. Most of us know oregano as a spice plant with many uses in Mediterranean cuisine.

In ancient times, it was widely used as a medicinal plant for various ailments, especially infections, digestive issues, and respiratory problems. The Greeks used it for treating wounds, headaches, muscle aches, colds, inflammation, and infections like coughs and bronchitis. In Chinese medicine, it was commonly used to treat fever, vomiting, and even jaundice.

Over the years, the active ingredients in the plant, including carvacrol and thymol, have been studied. These are scientifically proven to have antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties. However, the most important feature is likely its powerful antioxidant function, providing the body with remarkable protection against free radicals (toxins from poor diet, radiation, and more).

How To Use It

Oregano oil is available for purchase in almost any health store, but it's a good idea to consult a naturopath about how to use it. Each company has its own dosage instructions, and while some sell it in capsule form, you can also find it in small bottles with droppers. The oil is very potent and requires careful use. Typically, the liquid oil should be diluted in water before use, and, as mentioned, consulting an expert for the best usage method is advised.

If you're taking oregano oil for a cold or a persistent cough, combine it with rest and plenty of fluids, and boost your body with vitamin C. And don't forget the most important thing—prayer and Psalms for healing—they work better than any supplement or medicine. Good luck!
