Most people worldwide today suffer from gum diseases and cavities. Gum diseases are characterized by swelling, pain, bleeding, redness, and more. Cavities refer to holes in the teeth.
The causes of gum diseases include an acidic diet (animal products, dairy, sugars, etc.); hot food and drinks that harm the gums; brushing teeth without brushing the gums; overly aggressive tooth brushing; poor teeth alignment; orthodontic treatment; tartar; smoking; aging; emotional issues (such as hesitation or dilemmas) and more. Additionally, underlying diseases and deficiencies in certain vitamins and minerals can worsen the situation. Bacteria in the mouth create plaque (tartar) at the base of the tooth, generating acid that harms the enamel layer of the tooth, and eventually, the deeper layers, leading to damage to the tooth's bone and loosening of the teeth, resulting in their loss. It is important to know that against the bacteria - there is a vital secretion at the base of the tooth, containing antibodies and protective materials for the gums. If tartar accumulates on the tooth, it will block the beneficial secretion from the tooth, and a small tear in the gums will begin, deepening the pockets around the tooth down to the root. As a result, tooth stability can be lost, leading eventually to extraction.
Here are some important guidelines to prevent cavities and gum inflammation:
1. The most influential factor - predominantly consuming a basic, non-acidic diet (vegetables, fruits, grains, legumes, and almonds).
2. Drinking mineral or reverse osmosis water (without harmful fluoride and chlorine) at room temperature only.
3. Removing food residues between the teeth with uncoated dental floss (harmful), especially after consuming sweet and starchy foods (sugar - a breeding ground for bacteria).
4. Brushing teeth with a healthy toothpaste (preferably homemade, which can help teeth seal cavities, and not regular store-bought toothpaste that causes significant damage to the teeth and gums).
5. Brushing in the morning and evening for at least two minutes. This should be done thoroughly but gently (aggressive brushing is a leading cause of gum recession).
6. It is recommended to visit the dentist and hygienist for check-ups. From experience, if one eats healthy - there is no tartar build-up at all, and hardly any cavities.
7. Using a soft toothbrush and brushing the gum line with movements from the gums towards the tooth.
8. Key important vitamins: Vitamin C, Omega 3, Vitamin D, Vitamin Q10 and more.
9. Massaging the gums with coconut oil or sesame oil for a few minutes a day.
