What Your Eyes Reveal About Your Health: Exploring Iridology
Iridology, the study of the eyes, is a unique approach to diagnosing an individual's health, character, and genetic tendencies through various signs in the eyes. Discover everything you wanted to know about 'the eyes as the mirror of the soul', from naturopath Zohara Shavit.

The wonders of creation unfold in the remarkable way our eyes work, not only to see the world but to communicate about our inner health. Naturopath Zohara Shavit shares her insights about this intriguing method with Hidabroot.
"It's amazing how our eyes can impressively reveal what is happening within us. They showcase the body's natural healing abilities and inform us of critical elements such as stress, poor nutrition, allergies, existing illnesses, and even potential future health issues."
Classical sources emphasize the importance of eyes as a reflection of the soul and overall health.
Ecclesiastes states, "Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the soul" (Chapter 6). In 'Perkei Moshe', Rambam mentions, "The eyes provide a true indication of the body's strength." In 'Pardes Rimonim' by Ramak, it is noted there are different hues in the eye, each with its special significance, while 'Sefer Sodi Razaya' says that "the entire body follows the eyes."
"Indeed, our soul, expressed through the nervous system, is connected to the organs and is reflected in the eyes. You can see in them the causes of symptoms and sensitivities, and even identify the root of a disease at both the physical and emotional levels."

How Did This Method Develop?
"In 1665, a Hungarian doctor named Peszkelly found an owl limping on one leg. He treated the owl, discovering it had a broken leg. As he set the bone, he noticed a mark in the owl's eye. Once the leg healed, the eye mark gradually cleared as well.
"Later, the doctor examined the eyes of patients, both when they were sick and after recovering, noticing changes. After extensive research, Dr. Peszkelly mapped the iris, discovering shared signs among patients with similar health issues.
"About 300 years later, in 1922, Dr. Bernard Jensen further developed the method, spreading it to Germany, Italy, and other parts of the world. Later studies offered more proof of the diagnostic method's effectiveness, creating a comprehensive map of the iris, where each body part and medical condition has a corresponding sign."
The Wonders of Creation in Our Eyes
How fascinating it is to continuously discover new things about the divine wisdom embedded in the human body. Ms. Shavit enlightens us about how the eyes signal the stronger and weaker organs within us: "Our eyes are made of tissues. When weakness arises in any organ, or unfortunately a disease develops, nerve signals from the brain are sent to the tissues in the eyes, causing them to change accordingly.
"According to iridology, the eyes reflect all of the body's organs and systems. By examining the iris—called the 'iris'—we can detect if an organ has an issue or is weakened. Each of us is born with strong and weak organs. With diagnosis, we can identify the strong organs and offer a plan to maintain their strength. Additionally, we can identify the weaker organs that require strengthening and proper management to prevent further weakening.
"The iridological diagnosis helps understand the narrative behind an illness, pinpointing its origin and determining the correct way to address the root cause, not just the symptoms. Examining the iris, the round part of the eye, is another diagnostic tool for naturopaths to provide the most precise treatment tailored to each individual.
"This diagnosis is non-invasive—the examination is conducted using a flashlight and magnifying glass. Some diagnosticians use a special camera to photograph the iris, displaying the eye's image on a computer screen. The photograph is like a regular camera, causing no harm to the eyes. The diagnostician focuses on the iris, either through the magnifying glass or on the computer screen, using a special map to examine according to the iris signs or structure.

Through this examination, one can gain an in-depth look at the patient's physical and emotional condition, and predict potential future illnesses, offering ways and advice on prevention. This is, in my opinion, the utmost importance of iris diagnosis.
In conclusion, iridology is a diagnostic tool that can help prevent illness by identifying weaknesses, taking preemptive measures, and receiving advice and methods of prevention before the onset of acute disease. By changing one's lifestyle, negative genetics can be minimized, the body strengthened, and even blood test results can improve.
