New Study: ADHD Traits Perfectly Suited for Entrepreneurship
A groundbreaking British study finds that the challenging symptoms of ADHD may be advantageous in the business world.

A new study from the University of Bath in the UK reveals that the challenging symptoms of ADHD, such as impulsivity and restlessness, can actually be advantages in the world of business entrepreneurship.
Researchers suggest that the impulsivity of individuals with ADHD often leads them to make bold business decisions intuitively. Their 'hyper-focus'—the ability to concentrate intensely on something of interest while ignoring outside distractions—also serves as an asset in business. Additionally, many individuals with ADHD require less sleep and are able to work long hours effortlessly as long as they are engaged with their work, which further aids in advancing their business ventures.
During the study, researchers conducted extensive interviews with 14 entrepreneurs diagnosed with ADHD. Based on these interviews, they drew conclusions about how the entrepreneurial lifestyle uniquely suits those with ADHD. Most interviewees reported they chose to start their own business due to boredom at conventional jobs, and they appreciate the freedom to set their own working hours.
Professor Dimo Dimov, co-author of the study, notes: "Successful entrepreneurs often report having ADHD, so it's interesting to explore why that might be the case. Our study found that ADHD was a key factor in the decision-making process of our respondents to become entrepreneurs, and it generally had a positive impact on their entrepreneurial abilities."
Professor Holger Patzelt, from the Institute for Entrepreneurship Research at the University of Munich, who also participated in the study, adds: "Impulsivity plays a special role in business. People with ADHD are comfortable with intuitive decisions, even if the outcomes are not favorable. Furthermore, in situations that stress others out, like challenging meetings with important clients, they usually feel energized and at ease. Their impulsivity also enables them to act effectively under unexpected circumstances without freezing or panicking."
