A Bizarre Medical Discovery: The Hidden Cause of One Man's Eye Swelling
A young man from Vietnam arrived at the hospital with a swollen eye, and what the doctors discovered inside left them stunned. The reason behind it is even more astonishing.

A 24-year-old man from Vietnam had been suffering from pain and swelling in his left eye for three weeks, without realizing the true cause of his issue. Only after a comprehensive examination at a large hospital was the shocking reason uncovered – a wooden chopstick was lodged deep within his eye socket.
The patient initially consulted a doctor in his hometown where his vision was tested, but no abnormalities were found. He was given medication that did not alleviate his pain, and as his condition worsened, he went to a larger hospital. There, a CT scan revealed a foreign object about 9 cm long that had penetrated through the soft tissues around his eye, passed through the sinuses, and even reached his nose.
Only after this discovery did the man recall an incident during a night out with friends when, under the influence of alcohol, he collided with another person – though he wasn't aware at the time that a chopstick had entered his face.
The medical team successfully removed the chopstick with a special surgery, carefully cleaning the area to prevent severe infection. Fortunately, the chopstick missed the eyeball, but the case serves as a reminder that such injuries can lead to serious damage if not treated promptly.
